Brandi Maxiell talks Surviving Ovarian Cancer + The Importance of Early Detection

Brandi Maxiell, the gorgeous wife of Orlando Magic basketball player Jason Maxiell, recently joined the cast of VH1 Basketball Wives LA. During the first episode Brandi discussed her battle with ovarian cancer, going through chemo therapy 7 years ago, and her most recent recurrence scare.

Some of the most common ovarian cancer signs and symptoms are:

  • bloating
  • pelvic or abdominal pain
  • trouble eating or feeling full quickly

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition says,

If caught in the early stages, the five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is 90 percent, yet 75 percent of women are still diagnosed in the advanced stages when the prognosis is poor.

Unlike breast and cervical cancer, there is no early detection test for ovarian cancer. Therefore, awareness of the symptoms and risk factors for ovarian cancer is critically important.

Brandi sat down with National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to briefly discuss her experience with ovarian cancer and how she was able to get through it with the support of her husband. Watch the clip below.
